“Who is Amit Shah?” asked my friend Reena, surprising me with her question.

“Did he stay in our building? If you know his number I can add him to the Whatsapp group.” Reena said

The mutton bone flew out from my mouth and hit my laptop screen.

It was a lazy Sunday afternoon on the 2nd Day of August, I ate Dhansak for lunch and got the news flash about Amit Shah contracting COVID.

I announced the news on our Buildings Whatsapp group, whose members have now dissipated all over the world but still feel like one in this group.

Reena is not the Alia Bhatt of our building. She did not know Amit Shah because she has been living in the USA for the past two decades. She knew the Prime Minister Mr. Modi but not his man Friday.

I praised my wife for lunch and told her the news.

“I hope Modiji does not get it.” my wife sounded concerned when she heard the news.

“After all, Amit Shah must be meeting with Modiji every day. They must be discussing the country’s affairs every day. Are you sure Modiji is ok?” my wife knew Amit Shah’s schedule better than his PA.

“I have no idea. The news channels are not saying anything. I am sure Modiji is ok.” I replied.

“Will they keep him in the same hospital as Amitabh Bachchan?’ my wife again.

“I don’t think so. Amit Shah is in Delhi and Amitabh is in Mumbai. Amitabh should be near recovery now” I replied.

“Wasn’t Amit Shah supposed to go to Ayodhya for the foundation ceremony on 5th August. Now what will happen?” my wife went on.

Like most times I kept quiet.

“I think all this happened because they did not invite Advaniji. See, you should never hurt old people. You too never talk to my dad. Now Amit Shah will also have to watch the ceremony over Zoom.” My wife already knew why Amit Shah got COVID.

“I am sure Advani is not the reason why Amit Shah got COVID. He has to meet a lot of people especially with the Rajasthan situation.” I told my wife.

“You think a Tablighi Jamaat member must have come to meet him in the last few days?“ My wife went on.

I took the car keys and left the house. I had no answers.
