Father's Day
Remembering my father.
“Don’t you believe in God? Are you an Atheist? I never see you going to a mosque” – Sandeep, my father’s friend, questioned him.
“God takes away all the good people first– so I don’t want to come in his eyes”- my father replied. Sandeep and my dad both laughed.
My mother is very religious and my father used to say “She does my part of the praying too”
I got my B.Com results and came home and announced that I have passed in First Class.
My father asked me “ So what are your plans now?’ return
“I plan to join your business or take up a job”– I said confidently.
“If you are good in accounting why don’t you do CA”–my father quizzed.
“I will not be able to earn for another 3-4 years” —I countered.
“Did I ever tell you – that we need your money?” - my father said with a straight face.
My house was last painted 7 years ago. If the new lady of the 7th floor kept her tap open - I used to get a free shower. A feeling of Relief and Motivation hit me.
My dad or Puppa (as I called him) was a great foodie. He used to believe that skimmed milk means regular milk diluted with water. One of his theories, the oil helps the food to slide in your stomach.
Fried food was his weakness. He had his first heart attack when he was 45. He has a by-pass done at 59 and had two more stents put in at age 72.
My father jokes " The cardiologist is my friend. It is my duty to pay his son’s college fees.”
The last time, he went to the hospital at the age of 75 – Sandeep again told him “At least pray now–Don’t you want to go to heaven?”
My father, in his weak voice, replied “What will I go to heaven and do: None of my friends will be there.”
